Oh my goodness, did we have so much fun this weekend!
Friday night, we drove over to my parents and stayed the night at their house. Saturday morning, Clancy and I took off for Seattle and got in line for this:
CATCHCON!!!
Boats, crew members and Captains from "The Deadliest Catch" were there and it was SUPER AWESOME.
We arrived in line around 11:10, even though the doors didn't open until 12. This was a private event put on by The Discovery Channel. We registered about a month ago and got wait listed. Luckily, we got off the wait list and were able to go. We had ticked that were emailed to us and I believe only 2000 people were invited.
Once inside (after freezing our butts off, stinkin' Seattle), we handed over tickets, signed releases, showed ID, and were given our Deadliest Catch lanyards. We decided to hit the store first and purchased and cup and sweatshirt. Next, we hit the boats! I was hoping the Time Bandit would be present, but it didn't make the trip down from it's dock in Homer, AK. The Wizard and the Northwestern were both there, though!
First, we got to go on the Wizard and met Gary Soper and another dude, who I am not sure what his name is. I thought maybe it was Crosby, but he wasn't as smiley as Crosby is, so who knows. But I loved meeting Gary, he's such a nice guy.
We went over to the Northwestern next, and met Edgar Hansen, Norman Hansen and Nick Mavar Jr. I love Edgar!
Poor Nick had broke his nose earlier and had to have it reconstructed!
Clancy having some fun on the Northwestern!
After that, we decided to go in and listen to the last of the Captains talking on stage. Next was lunch time! After that, we went outside and mingled with the Captains and crew. I had one person I wanted to meet, and I got to!
My favorite Captain, Johnathan Hillstrand!
I also got a pic with his brother, Andy Hillstrand. Together, they Captain the Time Bandit.
Then I saw one of their crew members, Mike Fourtner!
From the Northwestern, I met Jake Anderson. He's probably my favorite crew member, he always tries so hard to enter the tight bubble Sig, Edgar, Matt and Nick have.
Also from the Northwestern, Matt Bradley. He was cool and funny!
This is Captain Keith Colburn from the Wizard. He also signed my sweatshirt....not because I asked him to, he just did it. I was kind of annoyed because I didn't want anyone signing my sweatshirt, but oh well!
I also got really close to Jake Harris, who I really wanted to meet, as well as his brother, Josh. This is as close as I got to Josh:
Haha, he was with his girlfriend and didn't really mingle much. I didn't feel like going up and bugging him either. I tried hard to meet Sig Hansen, but it just never worked out. You could tell he wasn't a big fan of having all the people around him. He's kind of anal like that. Instead, i go this:
Next, we sat down and listened to the audience ask the crew members questions.
After that, I was done. It was 5 and I was ready for dinner. We walked down the street and went to....
I have been dying to go here and was so excited! It was delicious!
We walked back to our car and passed the boats again, only the Northwestern had taken off. The Wizard was prepping to leave we just kind of stood there for a couple minutes taking it in. It was such a fun day and so surreal to meet these men that we watch on TV do one of the hardest, if not the hardest, jobs out there.
My photographer, my husband, rocked. We really needed a day together after all the madness. It was so nice to get away with him. I had to thank him for letting me put my arm around a bunch of the guys, and he said no problem! Love him.
Thank Mom and Dad for taking the girls!
If you are wondering why we love this show, I encourage you to watch the Season 7 premiere tonight on the Discovery Channel at 9! I can't wait!
Glad you guys had fun! I've never watched the show, but I've heard it's pretty addicting.
